Dear Albert,
We would like to thank you very much for organizing our holiday, and offering such a fantastic tour of the places we really wanted to see. We wanted to let you know how much we appreciated your professionality, and obviously we appreciated the time you spent to come to refund us of the money for the transport.
Your communication was also very efficent and you were always present in case of any problem or queries.
It was a pleasure getting to know more about your company and the all the project you are involved with. We personally would be very happy to recommend Africa Adventure to anybody wishing to go on holiday in East Africa. In the next few days or few weeks I'd like to make some interventions in travel blog or forum for people looking for advices, because I would be glad to mention your company name to other travellers

Best regards

COMMENTS.

Dear African Home Adventures,

Sorry that it's only now that I'm writing to you but I just wanted to let you know how great our tour guide Lowri was.

He was so helpful and made sure that we were safe and happy at all times - he is a credit to your company.

He even went the extra mile after our tour to drive me and my friend to the bus station in Nairobi (at night)so we could catch our bus to Mombasa. He even walked us to the ticket office and made sure we were safe and got the correct tickets. Without him we would have got lost and would have felt in danger so we are very grateful.

We came to Kenya last November but it was only now that we found the paper work with the correct email to contact you.

He was an excellent guide and was always thoughtful and helpful. We also managed to see the big 5 and the little 5 all because he made the effort for us.

Please let me know if this email reached you well and if lowrie is still there and I will forward some pictures of our trip.

Thanks,

Hi Albert, such a pleasure to meet you here in your beautiful blog!

We just wanted to thank you so much for arranging our wonderful journey and for what we consider the best experiences we have ever had in your country (it was our 4th time in Kenya, and, you know, this time with our child...).
Our stay was more than we expected, everything worked out exactly as you promised and prepared to perfection by your good care and professional staff.

We strictly recommend African Home Adverture to any other travelers looking for the excellence in their journey to Kenya, and specially one of your staff: Eduard, he was a highlight on our trip, excellent in every way (personal and professional), the best guide we could have had.

We've also created a photoblog updated with some pictures of travel,
specially nature and wildlife, please, feel free to share our wildlife
pictures (Big Cats) taken in this beautiful experience with African Home Adventures.

Jambo Albert,

I just wanted to thank you for a very nice safari. I found that your company kept its promises, the standard of the accommodation and food (in both the hotel and the camp) was very good, probably better than our expectations. I also need to write about Kennedy who was a very helpful driver/guide and a pleasure to be around. I particularly liked the way he was driving outside the parks. He seemed to have a focus on safety, did not take uneccesary risks, but still drove efficient. This to me is important on accident prone highways.

I will have no hesitation recommending your company to others, and I will definately take advantage of your services if I want to go on safari again (and will probably insist on Kennedy again).

Asante sana,

Hi Albert

I want to thank you so much for a wonderful safari

Your company was just the best

Your driver was excellent, not only experienced and professional, but great
company and a joy.

I met many fellow travelers after my 'african home' adventure and we shared our
safari experiences. I believe that my safari was the best value for money
and consider myself very lucky to have found your company by accident on the
internet.

I have some advice for you though. Whilst chatting to other travelers, some did
say they had seen your company on the internet and were thinking of booking with
you, but did not because they did find anything to vouch for your reliability.
So I am writing this email so you can use any of the good words I have to say
for your future advertisements, if you chose to use them.

I am doing this because I truly enjoyed my holiday in Kenya and that was mainly
due to your company being so good and for such a reasonable price.

I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of service, accommodation
and food.

So thank you very much and I wish you the best of luck and hope that your
company continues to grow.

Cheers.

Message: We are the two ladies from Finland who participated in the 7-days Masai Mara-Lake Nakuru-Amboseli –safari during the New Year.

Our driver and guide was Lawi whom we’d like to thank warmly for offering us a tremendously lovely safari. Lawi is a brave and safe driver and he knows a lot about the animals found on the safari. We enjoyed the whole safari but especially our time in Masai Mara and the Enchoro Wildlife Camp where the staff was great. Asante sana!

Hi all, this might come a bit late for the person who asked in the first place, but it might help others so I'll post a brief journal anyway.

We did our safari with Africa Home Adventure last summer and overall they did a very good job. We spoke with Albert Ouko and he was very responsive. They offer some flexibility in their trips, ie. they will let you upgrade to a lodge if you don't want to camp in a particular area. In fact, we heard about rogue elephants in Samburu, so we did get an upgrade. Just make everything clear during the initial negotiation. Our itinerary was AHAC-30 (12 days safari in Maasai Mara – Lake nakuru – Samburu – Mount Kenya – Amboseli – Tsavo west – Tsavo east). We arranged airport pick-up and drop-off with them, so their driver was already waiting for us when we landed in Nairobi.

Their vehicles are Toyota minivans especially modified for safari (the roof is detachable, so that passengers can stand up and see the animals). They have leaf spring rear suspension and it can get very bouncy on rough roads, so you might want to fight for the front seats or take turns with the other travellers.

We were 7 people in the van during the first 4 days and only 3 for the last 8 days. This is important because space is very limited and less people means you can stock more water.

The driver will stop at a Tuskies supermarket in Nairobi before leaving for Maasai Mara. You can buy water here, since it's much cheaper than at the Enchoro campsite. You will get 3 meals a day during the trip, so don't buy much food. If there is room in the van, I suggest stocking a pile of 5 liter bottles and one smaller bottle to refill. There is no way to get drinkable water in the reserves. Water purifying pills are also a good idea. We refilled a lot from taps.

In Maasai Mara we stayed at the Enchoro tented camp. As far as tents go, these were extremely luxurious: ours had two beds, private toilet and a shower all IN the tent. They also have small igloo tents with shared bath/shower, so you might want to check which one you will get in advance.

The game drives in Maasai Mara were wonderful. Our driver, Otis, did a great job looking for animals. He also used the radio a lot to get information from other drivers. For starters, we had a family of lions devouring a freshly killed wildebeest, while a flock of vultures, marabus and a jackal waited to take their turns.

You will have free time to see a masai village. You pay 1000 ksh and they'll dance and jump for you and invite you to see one of their adobe houses. They also have some handcrafts.

At Lake Nakuru we stayed at the Chester Hotel. They have decent rooms with private toilet and shower, but by the time we arrived they were holding a convention, they were overbooked, and it took a few hours to get the room. The village was very lively and there was a commercial street nearby, so we just took it easy and walked around. The game drive around Lake Nakuru was superb. The sight of thousands of pink flamigos was impressive. We saw rhinos fighting for territory, hienas, buffalos and impalas.

After Lake Nakuru we switched drivers, since part of the group was returning to Nairobi. Our new driver, Kennedy, was also very knowledgeable and willing to explain the wildlife. He also tried hard to get the best sights while being respectful with the animals.

In Samburu we heard elsewhere on the web that campsites were being invaded by elephants at night, so we decided to upgrade and stay at the Sopa lodge instead. I REALLY recommend upgrading to a lodge even if your budget is tight. Just do it for 1 or 2 nights, it's a whole new experience. They have about 30 samburu-style cottages around a waterhole where animals come to drink while you relax drinking a beer. The food from their buffet was also excellent. Just don't get too used to the confort, since you'll be heading for 4 days of REAL CAMPING... (read ahead).

In Mt. Kenya we climbed up to a cave that served as a hideout for the kenyans during an uprise against the british. It's around a 2h walk each direction, so don't carry too much weight. And be prepared for the rain.

At this point we met Gideon, our chef. He was a very nice guy. He was also responsible for the best meals of the trip. Meals were usually pancakes and toasts with fruit for breakfast, and a dish of pasta/rice with meat and vegetables or a stew for lunch/dinner.

Amboseli was fantastic. We got to see a leopard dragging a fresh kill. These are extremely elusive animals so we were very excited. Even Ken, the driver, was! The campsite was in the reserve. There is a fence around the place, which kind of keeps elephants away. You will see lots of monkeys in the campsite. Do not leave the van open, they will steal your food. Do not carry food with you. Ever. Baboons will jump on you and rob you. It might look funny, but they are very aggressive. We saw a Marabu scavenging food leftovers. These birds are much bigger than vultures, about as tall as a human being, and having one face to face is very IMPRESSIVE. At night, we heard hienas laughing far away.

In Tsavo West, we camped in the middle of the reserve. Note this is not a fenced area like at the Enchoro camp or Amboseli. Okay, the fence might give you a false sense of safety, but here you are in the middle of the wild, so DO expect visitors at night. We had a genet coming soon after the campfire went out. We also heard the crackling of branches while being eaten by an elephant very close to us. Though a bit scary, the experience is well worth it. You will NEVER forget the noises of the night.

The game drive in Tsavo West was incredible, just like the others. This is near a volcano, so the scenery on the way to the park is an amazing mix of red sand and black lava. At the park, we saw a crocodile tearing bites out of a fresh carcass by spinning on itself in the water. We could also see a male lion majestically lying on the ground watching over a heard of wildebeest. It was just impressive.

We spent the last night before Tsavo East in a hostel, since we already had enough of animal noises in the dark. The hostel was a bit decrepit, but it had a private shower which made it look luxurious compared to our last four days of camping.

The morning after we did a quick game drive in Tsavo East. Tsavo East wasn't as exciting as the other parks. Also the drive was short because we had to head back to Nairobi to take our flight back.

I hope this helps anyone!

Mr. Ouko,
I just wanted to write to you and thank you for what was a very enjoyable safari. Soi did an excellent job. He was obviously very experienced and skilled: he knew where to look for animals and how to get there quickly and
safely. And once we arrived, he always had a wealth of information to share and could answer all our questions. In addition, he was very attentive to us: he knew what we were looking for and what we had already seen enough of
so that each game drive felt personalized just for us. We just wanted to let you how much we enjoyed all of our time with him.

So, overall, our experience with your company was very good. The accommodations were just fine and the staff at both the hotel and the camp were very friendly and helpful. Thank you very much for putting all of this
together.

Subject: Our Safari Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Amboseli

Message: Hi African Home Adventure Safaris,

Just a quick line to say how much we enjoyed our Safari, Edward realy went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and that we stayed happy and safe the whole time.

We were picked up promptly at the airport even though our plane was running late... thanks for that.

Masai Mara was just spectacular we saw all the animals we expected to and more, it was a little wet but this just added to the enjoyment as we got to see the plains grow grass and get very green.

e saw plenty of drama also with Lions attacking Buffalo and also a Lion being seen off by the Buffalo, this was much more than we expected to see. We saw a Cheetah and a baby cheetah which was awsome as well.
Lake Nakaru

I really liked Lake Nakaru, this was where we got to se Rhinos Flamingos and the view point was amazing , being a photographer i really enjoyed Lake Nakuru, i would like to have of had an extra day here also to have of had time to take some tea in the little tea shop.

Hells gate, we did not realise that we could hire bikes here, we definetley would have of done if we had of known.

Amboseli
Wow, there was a little less wildlife here than the mara but the scenery is spectacular, seeing Mount Kilimanjaro was great, we got some nice sunset shots of Kili. The Elephants were mgnificent here, we alos saw a some hyenas take down an elephant .... heartbreaking but thats just the circle of life.

I would reccomend African Home Adventures to anyone planning a Safari and i would certainly reccomend Edward as your driver.

once again Many Thanks
We will be back in a couple of years to do KILI!

Good morning,
we came back home two days ago and we want to tell you how much wonderful the safari has been:
1) The organization has been fantastic
2) The national parks have been wonderful
3) The lodges and the service have been perfect
4) The food has been very very tasteful
5) But above all our driver has been the most special person we have ever met: he was kind, professional, punctual, nice, very polite, he led us into a fantastic country like Tanzania. He helped us to appreciate special sites, special people like Tanzanians, animals, landscapes.

Excuse me but my bad English doesn't allow me to express all my enthusiasm in this trip: we have appreciated so much everything and we promise you to recommend your organization to all our Italian friends.

As you were not in a position to organize a tour to Kenya, I went there on my own and I am sending this information with the belief that it would benefit you and others who wish to travel to Kenya, by adding Kenya to your list of tours. I think many of your regular clients would be happy to go there.

I found hundreds of tour operators in Kenya and finally selected Africa Home Adventure whose e-mail address is info@africahomeadventure.com. I am glad I chose them for several reasons:
They are not a private business. They are a project of the International Youth Hostels. You can be sure that they are always aboveboard in organizing their tours. They are more or less an NGO. Mr. Albert Auko is their Tour Advisor whom I found to be very honest, knowledgeable, courteous and helpful. In fact, he came personally to meet me at the Airport. You can rely on him confidently.
Africa Home Adventure is a small company with about 5 vehicles and a team of devoted workers. Another advantage of travelling with them is that their Hostel can put up travellers on arrival and before departure at a cost of about $12 a night. Staying in a hotel would cost more than half the budget of the tour. I took a camping safari for a week to 3 game reserves in the South, West and North of the country and my airfare and safari cost me around $1300. Of course, camping is tough but I went through it without problems at the age of 75. If you want to stay in hotels, the tour could cost anything above $2000. Costs will depend on various factors like time of travel, the number travelling and the comforts desired. These details you can discuss with Mr. Ouko. I should think you would be able to organize a tour to Kenya at the same rate you charged us for China. I think our operators make the mistake of trying to take a large number in a tour to minimize costs. That does not work. One tour I tried to join wanted to take over 15 on a luxury tour for just $1350 but they could not collect the crowd. In any case, they normally do not take people in buses into the reserves. The usual vehicle is the open top van which can take upto about 10 but with baggage, 5 to 7 would be an ideal optimum. If you have more they will use more vans.
I found the tour to Samburu was very arduous in travel and comfort, not commensurate to the cost and travail. Masai Mara and Nakuru is enough to give a traveller a good experience of the Kenyan Jungle. So much for the present. I trust my experience would help you to introduce Kenya to your list of tours. You can get the packages available from Mr. Ouko. Please give me your feedback after travel, so that I can make it available to more friends.

Subject: masai mara / lake nakuru 3 nights trip

Message: The expreience was fantastic and I wanted to send my thanks to Nickson and Odis who worked hard to make it as pleasant as possible. The staff were quite professional and as a single female traveller it was important for me to feel safe and be given my space.
The booking process was good, but when I arrived at the camp in Masai Mara it turned out they didn't have a tent for me as it was overbooked. I have been given a very basic tent with no facitlities for 1 of the 2 nights there. Needless to say i wasn't happy about that. The 2nd night accommodation was much better - a comfy tent with bathroom and electricity called Mount Kenya. The staff at the camp were helful. The driver who brought us from Nairobi was also our guide for the time in Masai Mara and was very nice and accommodating to our needs.
Lake Nakuru was nice too, but i would have prefered to go to Lake Bogoria, and indeed organised this trip as welll later. The hotel we stayed not far from Lake Nakuru was of low standard. Windows facing the restaurant courtyard and you couldn't keep the window open as the smalls and naises from the kitchen would disturb you till late at night. but it was nice to have a proper toilet again!
Generally i would recommend the company but only if they can ensure you will have the accommodation you pay for.
The Masai Mara was heaven on earth - so peaceful and it gives you an increadible sense of belongin. You never get tired of the drives and they go out at various times of the day so that you get a different light for the photos. I am greatful that i could go there and for this i thank you!

We had an excellent safari with Odhis . He made us feel comfortable and safe and did his best to make sure we saw all animals. Infact, thanks to his knoledge and good guidance we have seen everything even black rhino and leopard . We would definately recommend Odhis and i feel he is an asset to African Home Adveture: Perhaps provide more information before safari about distance between parks, travel and time, features of different parks etc. Really liked Samburu Sopa Lodge.

Our Guide Edward is a very good driver, knowledgeable about the animals +gave us the opportunity to see + photograph all the animals. He is very professional and has a good sence of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the parks each one has very different, but i would recommend a shorter game drive in Aberdares and long time at the treetops lodge instead to see the Elephants.
The hot air baloon ride in masai mara was an experience of a lifetime, we would highly recomend baloon safaris. Nickson organized a great itenerary we appreciated his flexibility in accommodation our schedule at a very short notice.
We had an incredible time !!! Thank You.

Dear Albert, Martin and friends in African Home Adventure Ltd,

How are you? Do you remember those Chinese girls and a boy who have visited Nairobi last month?

We have been back to Hong Kong and having our normal life again after an exciting trip from Kenya. We all appreciate very much for your valuable advice and information given to us before and during our stay in Kenya. We had a very memorable holiday this summer. Our impressions to Kenya were excellent, especially the people like yours, are so kind and friendly. The experience of staying in wild campsites (especially in Amboseli) and seeing a lot of lions, leopards and cheetahs were so amazing. We hope one day we will go and visit you all again.

Wishing you all the best and do welcome you to contact me if you travel to Hong Kong in the future.

Yours Sincerely

The safari was excellent. The value for money was specially good. I was expecting very basic facilities at the campsite but the proper bed and hot showers were an excellent surprise. Kaka was very accommodative and got us as close to the animals as possible. The food was also adequate. I would recommend the company to anybody coming to Kenya as it met all my expectations and the price was fantastic. The Chester hotel was good too only comment would be slightly limited selection of food. Thank you for a great time!

The campsite was very good as well as the food brilliant. My only comment is that on some days the meals were disorganized because each group were eating separately. It worked better when groups joined each other. Driving was excellent - felt very safe and he did well and kept happy under difficult driving conditions.
